
Let the Museum come to you! AMoA offers Outreach programs for students and teachers to enjoy in their own classroom. Docents and museum staff come to your school to lead a variety of experiences that encourage creative and critical thinking about art, history and culture.
The Museum Without Walls experience involves specially designed programs that discuss historical movements in the history of art. AMoA will visit your class and provide a 30 minute hands-on lecture, followed by a 30 minute art activity designed to reflect the art and culture learned in the lecture.
Program Dates: This program is offered all year.
Cost: $3.00/student; please note that prices are based on groups of 20 or more students, for groups smaller than 20 please contact the Education Department.
IMPRESSIONISM: THE SCIENCE OF LIGHT & COLOR
Program Dates: August 2009 - May 2010; Tuesday - Friday, 8 am - 3 pm
Students will learn about the art of Impressionism through the 17th and 18th centuries. Spontaneous, bold and considered the rebels of their time, the artists of the Impressionist Period studied light, color and optics to improve their ability to capture a "moment in time". Students will learn the science and technique behind the Impressionist style of painting during the hands-on lecture and in the execution of the art project.
MODERN ART: A 20th CENTURY MOVEMENT
Program Dates: August 2009 - May 2010; Tuesday - Friday, 8 am - 3 pm
Students will learn about the Modern Art movement in the early 20th century and how it changed the creation of art today. Your class will journey thorough the social, political and emotional drive behind the art that 'doesn't look like anything' and its influence on Western culture.
The Culture Case experience involves specially designed traveling suitcases filled with art and artifacts that your students can handle and examine. AMoA will visit your class and provide a 45 minute hands-on lecture, followed by a 30 minute art activity designed to reflect the art and culture learned in the lecture.

NATIVE AMERICAN ART: LEGENDS AND THE LAND
Program Dates: August 2009 - May 2010; Tuesday - Friday, 8 am - 3 pm
Students will learn about the art, culture and history of the Native American indigenous peoples. Your class will explore the great cultural diversity of American Indians, from the Acoma Pueblo potters of western New Mexico to the stone carvings of the Inuit people of Alaska and Canada. Art is an integral part of their culture, with many contemporary artists still being trained by their family and community.
THE ART OF ANCIENT EGYPT: THE MYTHS AND MAGIC OF THE LAND OF PYRAMIDS
Program Dates: August 2009 - May 2010; Tuesday - Friday, 8 am - 3 pm
Students delight in the Art of Ancient Egypt. Docents will lead your class into the Land of Pyramids through art and culture of the Ancient Egyptians. Bring the past to life as your students learn how and why the pyramids were built, what a sarcophagus is and the incredible art of the hieroglyphics!
THE ART OF JAPAN: A WORLD OF ART...A WORLD APART
Program Dates: August 2009 - May 2010; Tuesday - Friday, 8 am - 3 pm
Students will learn about the art and culture of Japan. Your students will begin their journey in the early Edo Period and travel through the land of the samurai. Your class will be exposed to the myths and culture that helped create an incredible body of work that spans the centuries. Through the generosity of Dr. and Mrs. William T. Price, AMoA has acquired a considerable amount of art from Japan, therefore this activity is recommended to be paired with a tour of our Japanese collection.
THE ART OF INDIA AND SOUTHEAST ASIA: THE DYNAMIC AND DIVINE
Program Dates: August 2009 - May 2010; Tuesday - Friday, 8 am - 3 pm
Students will learn about the art and culture of India and Southeast Asia. Your classroom will explore the symbols and religions behind Hindu, Jain and Buddhist sculpture, along with the myths and stories which surround these dynamic and divine works of art. Through the generosity of Dr. and Mrs. William T. Price AMoA has acquired a considerable amount of art from India and Southeast Asia; therefore this activity is recommended to be paired with a tour of AMoA's Asian Art collection.
