For nearly forty years the Amarillo Museum of Art has been dedicated to providing quality visual arts programming to the Texas Panhandle through collections, exhibitions, research,and educational programming. The Museum School is just one aspect of our long-standing commitment to arts education and to our community. 



CHILDREN AGES 4 & 5

ART ADVENTURE
Teacher: Julie Brooks Talley | Wednesdays, 4-5 pm | September 15 - November 3

Explore! Experiment! Experience! This introduction to materials and methods is the perfect first art class. Children will learn about color, shape, texture and line through painting, drawing, clay, collage, and printmaking.



CHILDREN AGES 6-8

DRAWING & PAINTING

In this popular class, students will explore color, pattern, line, shape, light and shadow while using a variety of media. This class may be taken more than once as projects are not repeated and students can expand skills.

EXPLORING ART
Teacher: Helen Kilburn | Wednesdays, 4-5:15 pm | September 15 - November 3 | Tuition:

Welcome to the magical world of art! This class introduces students to a variety of media including drawing, painting, pottery, collage and more. Experience the fun of learning about art and exploring your creativity.


CLAY

Teacher: Helen Kilburn | Thursdays, 4-5:15 pm | September 16 - November 4 | Tuition:

Squish it, coil it, roll it and throw it! This fun, creative class introduces children to the endless possibilities of clay. Students will create their own unique ceramic pieces using innovative yet simple techniques such as hand-building, glazing and surface texture decoration.

ADULT CLASSES

CLAY
Teacher: Alex Gregory | Thursdays, 6:30-8:30 pm | September 16 - November 11 | Tuition: Members (10%) $99, (20%) $88, Non-members $110
For the beginning student, this course is an introduction to the processes of forming clay into objects of both beauty and function. For the student already familiar with the processes of forming clay, this course will be an investigation into the finer aspects of clay form and surface. The potter’s wheel will also be utilized for the creation of various ceramic forms.

OIL PAINTING
Teacher: Emin Abbasov | Saturdays, 1:30 -3:30 pm | September 18 - November 20 | Tuition:
Members (10%) $99, (20%) $88, Non-members $110
This class is for any level of student who wishes to learn about or improve in the painter’s craft. Students will learn to execute monochromatic studies in oil paint, several concepts of color application and drawing with the brush using the still-life and portrait as subjects. Supply list provided.



SPECIAL EVENTS

NIGHTS AT THE MUSEUMS
PARENTS’ NIGHT OUT
| Ages 4-11 | Friday, October 1, 2010 | 5:30 - 9:30 pm
$20 for first child; $15 for additional children. Limited spaces available.
Advance registration required; payment due at registration.
Back by popular demand! Nights at the Museum is a collaborative event between the Amarillo Museum of Art, Panhandle-Plains Historical Museum, Don Harrington Discovery Center and the American Quarter Horse Association. Most Fridays during the month of October a different museum hosts the event. While you’re out on the town, dress your kids in their favorite Halloween attire, and leave the kids with us for dinner, fun and museum related activities. The AMoA event is Friday, October 1.


CHRISTMAS WORKSHOP
The Amarillo Museum of Art invites children ages 4-10 to our annual Christmas Workshop. The Workshop will be held on Saturday, December 4th from 10:00-11:30 a.m. Tuition is $20. Children will enjoy a variety of hands-on art activities, music, refreshments, and a photo with Santa too! Because attendance is limited, registration must be made in advance by calling the Museum at 371-5050.
