In this film, award winning filmmaker Norman Lloyd takes you into the heart of darkness, into a long gash in the jungle called the A Shau Valley. Lloyd, who covered battle after battle in Vietnam as a CBS News cameraman, builds his film around Mike Sprayberry, a soft-spoken lieutenant from Alabama who led a volunteer night time patrol to rescue elements of his company cut off and surrounded by North Vietnamese troops. For his courageous leadership under fire, Sprayberry was awarded the Medal of Honor, but over the four subsequent decades since the rescue, has remained determined to find the six men lost that night and bring them home.

LAWRENCE D'ATTILIO
Today there is considerable mutual benefit in the strikingly healthy attitude the Vietnamese citizens have towards us.  Americans are finding many benefits in this productive and growing situation. Awareness of Vietnamese traditional culture, and that culture's adaption to the contemporary world, can be a powerful factor in the evolution of our relationship.
