More on the film: The Amarillo Museum of Art proudly presents a selection from Art21: Art in the Twenty-first Century series. Identity is an important and dominating theme throughout contemporary and modern art. The film selection explores and questions how working artists of today address the theme if identity through portraiture, stereotypes, self-awareness and what it means to be an artist. With an introduction by comedian Steve Martin, the documentary focuses on works by William Wegman, Bruce Nauman, Kerry James Marshall, Maya Lin, and Louise Bourgeois. More on the art activity: Create a personal crest! Inspired by the Identity theme and the original works by the Panhandle Student Show, The Amarillo Museum of Art’s trained staff will help artists of all ages challenge their creativity by designing a personal crest. Using a variety of materials, draw and cut out symbols that represent you best and display them on a crest of your design! THIRD THURSDAYS are FREE and open to the public.
