African American Art - A Truly American Experience

The Amarillo Museum of Art brings art to life in your classroom. Our thirty minute presentation starts with the ancient art of the African continent, traces the roots of early African American painting, and ends with the significant impact made by the artists, writers, and musicians of the Harlem Renaissance. The post lecture activity will be specifically designed by Museum staff, along with the classroom teacher, to best suit the educational needs of the classroom. Your students will begin their journey into art with the Spanish Masters of 16th and 17th century. From there they will experience artists from Goya, to Picasso, from Dalí to Frida Kahlo. Students will learn about early Spanish influence on South and North American cultures and how that influence can still bee seen today. Impressionism - The Science of Light and Color

The Amarillo Museum of Art brings art to life in your classroom. Our trained education staff will present a half hour visual and audio presentation on the art of the Impressionists. Spontaneous, bold, and considered the rebels of their time - the artists of the Impressionist period made more than just a mark on the history of art. Your students will explore the nature of the French Academy in the 17th and 18th century and how the strict rules and regulations they set forth laid the groundwork for some of the world's most famous and popular art. This program also focused heavily on the science behind the paintings. The Impressionists studied light, color, and optics to improve their ability to capture a ‘moment in time'. The post lecture activity will be specifically designed by Museum staff, along with the classroom teacher, to best suit the educational needs of the classroom. Please book all AMoA Educational Programming at least one month in advance.

Abstraction and Expressionism - From Simplicity to Chaos...and Back Again

Abstraction and Expressionism might be the two most misunderstood words in the history of art. Take you students on a journey from late Impressionism in France through Cubism's birth in Spain. Then wander through Minimalism and Dada and find your self landing firmly in America's first real movement, Expressionism. Our trained education staff will help your class understand the social, political, and emotional drive behind art that ‘doesn't look like anything'. The AMoA's substantial collection of Modern and Abstract Art allows for this project to be available in the Museum at certain times of the year. Please contact the AMoA at 806-371-5050 for details.  The post lecture activity will be specifically designed by Museum staff, along with the classroom teacher, to best suit the educational needs of the classroom. Please book all AMoA Educational Programming at least one month in advance.
